A Creative and Social Ecosystem in Brno
Art Between Cultures is a new collaborative project created in Brno by Multicultural Center Brusinka and ARTME studio. It emerged from a simple observation rooted in everyday city life: Brno is a diverse and dynamic city where people from different cultural, social, and generational backgrounds live close to one another, yet often move through parallel worlds. The project responds to this reality through creativity.
At its core, Art Between Cultures treats artistic practice as a shared language. When people create side by side, differences in age, background, or experience fade into the background, making space for presence, attention, and shared action. Art becomes a natural way of meeting — without pressure, performance, or the need for perfect words.
Art Between Cultures brings together children, teenagers, adults and seniors from diverse cultural and social backgrounds living in Brno. Through creative workshops and collective projects, the initiative supports intergenerational dialogue and strengthens everyday social connections. In these shared moments, generations meet as part of the same local community, exchanging curiosity, experience, and care through the act of making.

A key dimension of Art Between Cultures is its connection to ecology, which resonates strongly with Brno’s growing focus on sustainability and responsible living. Rather than approaching ecology as a theoretical topic, the project offers hands-on, everyday experience. Participants work with recycled and reused materials, transforming textile remnants into artworks, plastic waste into sculptural forms, and glass or metal into candles. Creative sessions also involve working with resin and Jesmonite, wax and natural essential oils, ceramics, and plants. This diversity of materials introduces natural rhythms, sensory awareness, and a deeper connection to the act of making, allowing sustainability to become visible, practical, and embedded in everyday creative practice.
The creative process itself supports wellbeing.
While Art Between Culturesis not a clinical art therapy program, it is grounded in art-therapeutic principles such as mindful creation, sensory engagement, and a focus on process rather than outcome. These elements help participants slow down, reduce stress, and express emotions in a safe and accessible way — an important aspect of urban life, where many people experience pressure, isolation, or overload.
Art Between Cultures functions as an open cultural platform within Brno, where creativity, education, and community life intersect. Workshops and collaborative artworks transform the Multicultural Center Brusinka and ARTME studio into places of encounter rather than service — spaces that invite the city to participate actively rather than remain a passive audience.
The project culminates in public exhibitions that share both the artworks and the stories behind them. These moments invite the wider public into the creative process and strengthen Brno’s cultural life through shared experience, collaboration, and diversity. Some of the created objects may be offered for sale to support the sustainability of the center, showing how creativity can translate into meaningful, community-based impact.
More than a series of activities, Art Between Cultures is an evolving collaboration rooted in Brno’s local context. It reflects a vision of culture as something participatory, inclusive, and connected to everyday urban experience — a place where creativity supports wellbeing, sustainability becomes tangible, and intergenerational communities meet beyond borders.
