On Saturday, May 24, 2025, at the Multicultural Center Brusinka in Brno, the smell of empanadas filled the courtyard, while tango music slowly drew people closer. Conversations mixed Spanish, Czech, and English, and for a few hours, the space became a meeting point of cultures.

What does it mean to be Argentinian?

It means feeling a strong sense of pride in the colors of our flag, our customs, our music, the way we speak, and the way we live. Being Argentinian means being passionate, enthusiastic, friendly, proud, talkative, and supportive.

When you live abroad, these qualities often become even more visible. Being far from home can deepen your connection to what you left behind and make you want to share it with others.

That’s what happened in Brno, when a group of Argentinians decided to share their culture with the city. With the support of Brusinka as a welcoming community space, the idea gradually took shape. Step by step, more partners joined — from Argentinian and local businesses offering food, to individuals helping spread the word. Each contribution brought them closer to their goal: creating a community where Argentinians can meet, connect, and share their culture with others, including locals and people from different backgrounds.

On the day of the event, it became clear how strong this collective effort was. From fellow South Americans to curious Czechs, visitors experienced different aspects of Argentinian culture. While not everything went exactly as planned, the team felt that their main goal had been achieved and that their joint effort paid off.

With hindsight, it is now easier to see both the areas for improvement and the potential for future development. New ideas are already emerging, showing that the event planted a seed that is starting to grow — slowly but steadily.

Ten days later, it’s clear: this is just the beginning. The foundations for something bigger have been laid. In a space like Brusinka, where communities meet and collaborate, such initiatives can continue to grow and connect people across cultures.
